Watering in Dry Conditions

• Water in the cool of early morning or late evening

• Water thoroughly when needed – a good soaking targeted at the base of the plant stem

• Daily watering is not necessary for most vegetables

• Loosen the soil round plants to prevent water running away when the ground is hard

• Control weeds – they compete with your crops for water and can consume large quantities

• Water appropriately for the crop. e.g. root vegetables, herbs and alliums are relatively drought resistant

• To find out if there is moisture in the soil, dig down to a spade’s depth. Watering may be unnecessary…..

• Follow the Pump Instructions for use – our pumps are old and need careful handling
